Storm Dennis - The Uninvited Wedding Guest
I have been waiting to post these photographs since the beginning of lockdown. I didn’t want to post them as I felt it would not be fair to the many couples that were unable to get married and had their big day postponed or cancelled. I thought I would wait and post them when life was on it’s way to go back to normal, but as I think they may not happen now until way into 2021 I have decided to post them. Perhaps now they will cheer someone up and will be a reminder of the good things to come and that there is so much to look forward to. I cannot wait until I can get back to photographing weddings again and being a part of someone’s special day, to be surrounded by people and to be able to see smiles and to be seen smiling ( not that I am against wearing a mask).
I met this lovely couple at a wedding fair, they said they chose me to be their photographer as they liked my natural style, relaxed personality, and that I wasn’t the type of photographer to make them pose and be unnatural in their photographs. Your wedding day is all about you, but if you don’t like to be the centre of attention your photographer must respect your boundaries. I do not push my ideas on to my couples, I like to let them warm up and relax into their photographs. I have seen many wedding photographs in which the couple look uneasy and stressed. I have received a lot of positive feedback from my couples about how they felt I put them at ease and they felt so relaxed that they actually enjoyed having their photographs taken, when then usually they hate it.
The wedding took place in February at the beautiful venue of Long Furlong Barn in Worthing. It is a well oiled machine there, and I would highly recommend the venue to someone that wants a barn wedding. There is plenty of space, indoors and out and every little detail is thought about. Unfortunately we couldn’t make the most of the outside as Storm Dennis had other ideas, he bought with him 120mph cold winds and plenty of rain, needless to say it was rather difficult to get over 100 guests outside for a group photograph, (people don’t really dress for the weather at a wedding), but with the help of the best man and my bossy voice we managed it. It’s funny to think of being in a venue with over 100 people now, it seems so strange.
I had a lovely day photographing such a wonderful couple along with their kind and jolly family and friends. I am glad that I managed to photograph two weddings in 2020. I have really missed my work and cannot wait to get back to it. Unfortunately that may be some time in the future as I have had many cancelled and postponed weddings, Covid 19 sucks!
